Women in Golf

For minority golfers and women throughout the United States, the prejudice and unjust treatment do not stop once stepping onto a golf course. It was not long ago when women were not allowed to play golf, let alone vote! Now in 2024, there has been progression in the golf world for women. Slow and steady, but progression nonetheless.

Golf, known by the acronym “Gentleman Only, Ladies Forbidden”, is a game notorious for catering to its male demographic. During my senior year of undergrad, I wrote a 20-page senior thesis paper that touched on various topics, one being sexism in the game of golf. For women golfers, the mutual awareness of the stares, murmurs, and unsettling feelings in the air can be too much to bear. When stepping onto a golf course, it is a constant reminder that the game of golf was not a sport intended for the female gender to enjoy, thus igniting this feeling of women needing to “prove themselves” while playing.

As a female golfer since the age of eight, it is unfortunate to have many encounters and stories that instill the prudent issue of sexism in sports in our current society. I, along with many of my friends, family, and colleagues, have stories to tell and voices that need to be amplified.

This series will follow women in the golf industry and the importance of hearing others' stories and lifting their voices.

It is easy to get caught in the drift and feel isolated, lonely, and worst of all, unheard.

Having the courage to speak out is one of the best things you can do for yourself and others. Together we can create change that can be felt for generations. To my female audience, be strong and be proud of being you, we are blessed with the best gift of all.

This week, prioritize time with God and meditate on

Proverbs 3:15-18

“She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.”

As always I love you, but Jesus loves you more <3
